Belly Dance

Chandala fell in love with belly dance at the Renaissance Faire in 1989.  She was mesmerized by the serpentine, graceful movements executed with such control and mastery.  Although dance has always been a pivotal part of her life, her belly dance dream didn’t come to fruition until much later.  She stepped into her first class in 2008 and hasn’t stopped since.  She trains hard and dances from her heart.  She loves community, walks on the beach and loud music.  In art, she is a contrast junkie.

In addition to being a solo artist, she is also the director of Satinka Belly Dance based in Santa Cruz, a member of Zoe Jakes’ House of Tarot and Coven Dance Companies, a member of the Beats Antique dance family,  as well as percussionist, singer and dancer with the Feldthouse Family Band.  She also spent three years as a dancer and percussionist in Zoe & Danielle Smith’s Arcana Music & Dance.  Check out the projects page for more information on all this goodness.

Chandala is a certified Practitioner (Phase III)  of Rachel Brice’s 8 Elements of Bellydance and a certified Datura Style® instructor (Phase IV).  She is a certified Hot Pot ITS Level 1 Instructor.  She has played a foundational role in the development of Zoe Jake’s DanceCraft certified dance program and is in an ongoing apprenticeship with Zoe to learn and teach this format.  She teaches her own belly dance work under the name Trillium Belly Dance; an integration of her lineage, influences and unique personal style.

Other random achievements have been winning 1st and 2nd place in local bellydance competitions and being a UCSC guest speaker on the modern era of belly dance in Santa Cruz.
